BIO.

Roberto López Martín. Madrid. 1982.

Graduated in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, he also holds a Master's degree in Art and Creation from the same university. As a multidisciplinary artist, he works with different media such as sculpture, painting, video, and photography, combining them to immerse the viewer in his work.

Statement.

His work revolves around the propagation of the abnormal, which almost always aims to propagate the norm, but also creates a fascination for discovering that new form we are observing, which could be considered a voyeurism towards the morbid.

Currently, the focus is on what is beautiful or normal, and what is ugly and monstrous. Which figures are natural monsters or constructed monsters. Roberto works by analyzing the codes submerged in mass media images, always working with representations that can often be iconic and undeniably manipulated, within a social consensus.

Performance, video, photo, painting—everything can be part of a collage of information that he uses to talk about these images, about how this degeneration is reinterpreted for use and consumption. A spectacle presented as an undeniably irreversible, enormous positivity.

Despite his youth, in 2022 he published his book called Etopeyas, and has participated in various projects such as One Project at Art Madrid 2020 and in 2022, 2023, 2024 at Estampa 2022, 2023, 2024, at the International Contemporary Art Fair of Castelló 2019 (Marte) and Just XL 2019 in Lisbon, the International Print and Art Fair (Fig Bilbao 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023), and the La Distinción Art Fair 2020.

He has already had several group exhibitions in museums such as the MACVAC Museum of Vilafamés – Vicente Aguilera Cerní Contemporary Art Museum, "Estudio 120m," a group exhibition at the Würth Museum, La Rioja, the group exhibition "II Salón de las vanidades: Barroco Nuevo," Ducal Palace of El Carpio, Córdoba. 2019-2012 Selected for the Exhibition Program, Tomás y Valiente Art and Exhibition Center, Fuenlabrada, Madrid. International exhibitions such as Proyector, International Video Art Festival – Spain-Latin America-Portugal.
