Statement.
Evangelina approaches the genre of narrative portraiture in her process, alluding to the indeterminacy of human essence. The search for contemplative and transformative beauty of the Apollonian, as a symbiosis between the real and the ideal.
The artist revisits classical myths to reflect on the conception of a world that might have been matriarchal, as a return to nature. Posing questions and establishing a dialogue with the viewer, an analogy with the present and the mythologization of ancient beliefs that invert the established system to this day, which for a long time was stigmatized with reference to neo-pagan beliefs. She addresses the theme of recovering the connection with nature as an act of rebellion against the system established by patriarchy in an act of healing.
The use of classical materials such as tempera, a technique from which all others originated, is not random, but consistent with the discourse as a recovery of the natural order where humanity was closer to nature.
The existence of Goddesses as the construction of female identity through popular beliefs, myths, or legends, the mythification itself of the inexplicable that originated in a system where women reigned.
