BIO.
Born on January 29, 1968, in Waiblingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Bachelor of Fine Arts, Friedrich Schiller Gymnasium, Fellbach. Fine Arts, Freie Kunstschule Stuttgart. Student and assistant to sculptor Eckhard Diez in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Lives and works in Villanueva de la Cañada, Madrid, and Stuttgart, Germany.
Statement.
Annette Schock offers a mysterious insight into animals, as an embodiment and symbol of the irresponsibility of our paradoxical times. These are mainly food animals that frequently survive in deplorable conditions, as is the case in farms where, after the pleasant Alpine summer, the harsh winter and the sadness of the stabled animal will arrive. "The Three Graces" are perhaps the symbol, three friends of Annette, beautiful Austrian cows whose personalities the artist knows and explains in detail: "they deserve to be portrayed," our creator will declare.
Annette Schock is an extraordinary and tireless draftswoman, mastering the use of charcoal on both paper and canvas, to which she frequently adds acrylic paint. As mentioned, drawings occupy (one could even say "invade") her studios between Germany and Madrid, like preparatory sketches that form large mosaics, serving as a source of study.
In this way, large paintings grow, emerging after exhaustive analysis and careful selection of sketch stages, sometimes also using photography in the process prior to drawing, and in a way, this complex exercise is the starting point of her view on these meats.
