Collection: [ ÍTACA ]
At the inaugural event of the new DDR ART GALLERY premises, we immerse ourselves in the essence of Kavafis' poem "Ithaca," which will serve as a guiding thread to explore the profound connection between journey and artistic experience. Ithaca is not merely a geographical destination; it symbolizes the personal path and experiences of each of us, as well as the creative journeys undertaken by the artists whose works will be exhibited.
Like Odysseus, we all face our own odysseys. This journey is not without its challenges, but through the works presented, we will have the opportunity to tune in to the emotions and reflections of the creators, making their experiences our own. Each piece will be a fragment of this shared journey. In the pictorial and sculptural representation of the male figure, we find a contemporary interpretation of Odysseus. This new hero moves away from dependence on the gods, relying on his own instinct and determination. His struggles and yearnings will be reflected in the vibrant palette of the informalist works, which will evoke the landscapes traversed and the experiences treasured at every step of the way.
The female figures on display are, without a doubt, echoes of the seductive songs of sirens. In them, the image of a Penelope emerges, transcending time, embodying the beauty and strength of a woman capable of defying any expectation. Through her face, we encounter a representation of perseverance and longing, fundamental elements in the story of Odysseus and his return.
Photography, for its part, becomes a powerful allegory. The closed doors guarded by this new Penelope are metaphors for the limits that, in this sense, she presents herself not only as the guardian of her home, but also as a challenger of norms and a symbol of resilience. In the realm of drawing and illustration, each stroke seems to narrate the adventures experienced by Odysseus, from the Trojan War to his longed-for return to Ithaca, transporting us to key moments of his journey and inviting us to reflect on our own journeys.
Finally, in sculpture, we find the symbolic closing of this shared story: the reunion between Penelope and Odysseus. This work not only represents the culmination of a journey, but also the union of two souls who, despite adversity, find their way back home. With this exhibition, we will celebrate the power of art to connect our individual stories with universal ones, reminding us that every journey, however difficult, has its own Ithaca. We invite you to embark on this artistic journey with us, allowing each work to resonate in your hearts and minds.
Welcome to Ithaca!
