Birds, or winged beings, are a symbol of aerial travel and the relationship between heaven and earth, as they travel between both worlds.

Its designation in Greek was translated as “omen” or “heavenly message.”

Already in ancient Rome, augurs observed birds and interpreted the celestial signs they could transmit, from which comes the word auspice, AUSPEX: "one who looks at birds."

Throughout history, the bird has been a symbol of the soul for many civilizations. From Saint John of the Cross in Castilian mystical literature to the Persian symbolism of Farid al-Din Attaren, with his famous work "The Language of Birds," the soul flies in search of spiritual ecstasy, an encounter with the divine.

Evangelina Esparza, an Argentine artist based in Spain, seeks to capture the immediacy of a moment, to seize the beauty that oscillates between the contemplative and the transformative, generating a symbiosis between the real and the ideal, in a way that slows down time, trapping it in an image.

The artist approaches the genre of portraiture in her process, alluding to the indeterminacy of human essence.

The use of birds in his drawings and paintings speaks to the superego and the prerequisite for achieving the capacity to transition from the existential evolutionary state to a higher one. It symbolizes humanity's desire for its ethereal transformation, associated with the transcendent condition of inhabiting a space between heaven and earth.

Esparza delves into the search for the essence inherent in the human soul and attempts to blur the boundaries between the human and the divine within that inseparable nature.
