ONE PROJECT'19: THE TRIUMPH OF COLOR
Color becomes the central protagonist of the new One Project. It is the common thread that unites the works in distinct conceptual and formal dialogues. Lucid narratives to lose oneself in, to delve into a beginning that leads us to a new beginning, in which reality is camouflaged, transcended, or subverted.
Once again this year, Art Madrid presents the One Project program, designed to support and promote young artists whose careers are at an early or intermediate stage. The project materializes as a curated proposal within the fair, presenting the artists' works in a solo show format while maintaining a unified vision.

This year, one of the program's major new features is the inclusion of Nerea Ubieto, a critic and curator who is presenting an exhibition featuring only women artists. This choice, as Ubieto states, is based "on the urgency of balancing a scale that remains very unbalanced and making a stand in favor of all of us." Under the title "Fictions, Masks, and Landscapes: Color as a Backdrop," the exhibition features mostly unpublished works by seven artists, highlighting their international presence and, in particular, the Latin American participation.
As the curator explains, these works invite us to build our own universes, because "through creation we can shed the burdens that slow down the development of society, dissolve stereotypes, invent new ones, embrace what we wish to change, and effectively transform it. There are no limits, only more or less credible masks; with a greater or lesser charge of positivity and color."
Large splashes of color also feature prominently in the paintings of the more abstract and gestural Virginia Rivas, an artist participating with the online DDR Art Gallery ( Madrid). Rivas's emotional abstraction is characterized by expanded narratives, small revelations about experiences, or personal thoughts that interrupt the compositions. As a whole, her paintings are like traces of inner worlds now externalized and exposed in a beautiful "letting go." As the curator points out, Rivas invites us to journey through perhaps more intimate places, but still possible even within the framework of a fair.
